We have just completed our latest newsletter which has articles on our new ‘Don’t Dump, Donate’ food waste campaign and exploring food ‘best before’ dates. We also consider the environmental and social impacts of our consumption habits and give some money-saving hints to SMEs, which also reduce environmental impacts. Lastly, we summarise our latest policy submissions to the government.
Please contact us if you any questions or want to join us in our food waste/food bank campaign.
Mindy O’Brien has recently joined VOICE as the new coordinator. She has been on the Board of Directors for the previous 10 years and has been a volunteer for 13 years. Please contact her if you have any questions or queries.
As 2011 draws to a close, VOICE would like to thank all of our supporters and members for their support throughout the year.
It was a busy year that kicked off with work on the Climate Change Bill before work began on the General Election. We drew up a Doorstepping Guide for Candidates and carried out an analysis of the new Programme for Government.
We then moved onto household waste workshops in local communities, an appearance on TV3 talking about illegal dumping and an article about food waste for TheJournal.ie

As we come to the end of another successful year, it’s hard to believe Christmas is almost upon as again.
This year has been very busy for VOICE with a lot of our work done on policy issues, telling the Government what we think they should be doing differently. In this edition of our Newsletter we give you an update on the promised climate change bill on page 1 and you can read about the rest of our policy work on pages 6 and 7.
We are all very sad at VOICE to hear about the passing of Richard Douthwaite yesterday, Monday 14 November. Richard, co-founder of Feasta, was a brilliant sustainability thinker and intellectual. His economic analysis of the resource and financial crises was inspired. He is truly a great loss.
Feasta is inviting anyonewho knew him or who was influenced by his work to leave comments in the tribute section of their website. Tributes are already pouring in from across the world.
Summer has arrived! After the harsh winter of last year, we hope that the sun is shining wherever you are.
And what a year 2011 has been so far. With one of the most dramatic elections in recent history just a few months behind us, VOICE has been keeping a firm eye on the new Fine Gael-Labour coalition’s commitment to environmental issues. You can read more about how we think the Government is doing on page 2 of our Summer Newsletter.
At VOICE, we have been busy too. We made a submission on the Climate Change Response Bill at the start of the year, and continue to work towards the implementation of Climate Change legislation in Ireland (page 1). We’ve also been working with local communities this year, educating the public on sustainable approaches to waste. You can read about our Waste Action Workshops and how to carry out your own household waste audit on page 6.
We hope you enjoy reading our Summer Newsletter, which is filled with handy tips for sustainable living, an interview with our patron Darina Allen and a book review of The Post Carbon Reader.
