LYCS Waste Not Want Not Fair

To help spread the word on Food Waste, VOICE took part in the ‘Waste Not Want Not’ fair on October 18th at the Ballybough Community Centre in Dublin. Organised by LYCS Development Education, a community development project based in Dublin’s North East Inner City, the fair brought together a range of organisations to talk about waste, food waste and various sustainable initiatives.

VOICE gave a talk on food waste, its impacts on the environment and tips on how to reduce wasted food, to a mixed group of local residents and school students. VOICE also had a stand at the event, where members of the public could find out about the work of VOICE and how to reduce their impact on the environment. Feedback was very positive on the day and we hope to continue to forge links with the community to raise awareness on food wastage.

Participants on the day could also learn about upcycling from Sunflower Recycling, get recycling tips from RecycleIT, and get creative by using old materials to make art with Recreate and take part in Dave Newton’s (from ‘That’s Criminal’ arts initiative) workshops.  All in all it was a great day and we do hope that there are more ‘Waste Not Want Not’ fairs in the future.
