VOICE’s first ‘Food Rescue’ event will be held at Eithna’s by the Sea Restaurant in Mullaghmore, Co. Sligo on Sunday 5th October. We are taking our message about food waste to the local level! 30% of what we buy ends up in the bin – we aim to drive awareness around the problem of food waste in Ireland and highlight the positive solutions to tackle this problem. We will make and share a meal made out of local and seasonal surplus food that would have been thrown away, with neighbours from around Sligo. We will host leftover food cooking demonstrations and tastings, ‘ugly’ apple juicing, talks on reducing your food waste and more. Learn how to reduce YOUR food waste! All this revolves around a community meal made out of ingredients that were destined to be thrown away because they were too close to their ‘use by’ dates, were bruised, over-ripe or just ‘ugly’.This is a free event, open to all, at Eithna’s by the Sea in Mullaghmore, Co. Sligo. Eithna O’Sullivan, owner of the restaurant, will be conducting the demonstrations and cooking delicious things, including frittatas, chutney and smoothies. The event will take place Sunday the 5th October from 1pm until 3pm.
‘Food Rescue’ is supported by the Sligo County Council through a Local Agenda 21 Grant.
