For this year's International Coffee Day the Conscious Cup Campaign teamed up with Java Republic to inform the public about coffee cup waste in Ireland.
In less than two hours we gave away over 200 reusable coffee cups as a way to tell people about the Conscious Cup Campaign and engage people on single use coffee cup waste.
Members of the public we quizzed on coffee cup waste and were awared their very own Conscious Cup branded Stojo collapsible cup.
People were shocked to hear that 22,000 coffee cups go to waste every hour in Ireland, and none of these single use cups are currently recyclable. This is because your average coffee cup is made up of mixed materials, often with a plastic lining. And just like your pizza box, once contaminated by food or beverage, it has to go into your general waste bin.
We'd like to express a huge thank you to Java Republic for hosting our promotion at their Molesworth Street cafe, to Dublin's Q102 for joining us and giving a shout on air and to Dublin City Council for sponsoring the Stojo reusable cups!
