This year Zero Waste Cashel celebrated Earth Day by hosting a Zero Waste Festival in the town. This involved a market to introduce locals to Zero Waste Lifestyle with all sorts of unpackaged and eco-friendly goods on offer as well as a zero waste food cooking demo.
Along side other local groups across the country, volunteers joined with Zero Waste Cashel to take part in the Sick of Plastic Day of Action on April 21st which resulted in 1000's of people taking action against supermarket plastic all across Ireland. Supermarket customers in Cashel were very supportive of the initiative by also signing a petition asking supermarkets to do more to reduce plastic packaging.
Not only has Cashel town introduced on-street recycling, a pilot project to address food waste is being organised to supply households in some estates with kitchen caddies for household composting. To help kick this off and teach locals about composting and food waste a Stop Food Waste and Composting programme is currently underway.
Amneal Pharmaceuticals is the latest in a growing number of Cashel businesses to support waste reduction. They have recently introduced compost and recycling bins and will soon be hosting a workshop for employees as part of the VOICE Recycling Ambassador Programme.
